Hoyer Statement on Russian Response to Bipartisan Russia Sanctions Legislation Passing Through the House and Senate
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today regarding the Russian government’s response to the overwhelming bipartisan votes in the House and Senate to pass strong sanctions legislation against Russia:
“President Putin’s decision to seize U.S. diplomatic property and expel some of our personnel will not change the fact that Russia will face consequences for its interference in our election, its intervention in eastern Ukraine, and its illegal occupation of Crimea. The House and the Senate have now passed a tough sanctions bill by veto-proof margins, and it is incumbent upon the President to sign this legislation. If he fails to do so, it would raise serious questions about why he would look the other way when it comes to a foreign adversary working to undermine American democracy and our interests around the world. I urge the President to sign our bill without delay.”
