Whip Hoyer Releases Additional #TrumpCareStories Videos
VIDEO SERIES FEATURES INTERVIEWS WITH AMERICANS ABOUT THEIR HEALTH CARE EXPERIENCES
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) released two new videos in House Democrats’ “TrumpCare Stories: Americans Talk to Congress About Health Care” video series. After Senate Republicans delayed a vote this week on their TrumpCare bill that would take health care coverage away from millions of Americans and raise costs for millions more, Hoyer and House Democrats are continuing to share stories of Americans from across the country who would be harmed by this bill.
In the videos released today, Hoyer interviewed Marta Conner, from Virginia, and Clay Hashimoto, from Maryland. Both talked about serious medical conditions that their children have, how the Affordable Care Act has helped them afford the care their children need, and how TrumpCare would be devastating to their families. In addition, House Democrats are also sharing #TrumpCareStories from their constituents, including Rep. Cheri Bustos (IL-17), who spoke to Jim; Rep. Ted Deutch (FL-22), who talked to Carlos; and Rep. Lois Frankel (FL-21), who met with Amanda.
“While Senate Republicans delayed a vote on TrumpCare this week, they should abandon this bill altogether – not delay it,” said Whip Hoyer. “The stories I’ve heard from Americans across the country, including Marta and Clay, make it clear that TrumpCare would drastically impact their ability to access affordable, quality health care for themselves and their families. Republicans need to listen to these stories and recognize that their proposed bill would kick people off their coverage, make coverage more expensive for many, and make coverage worse for many more. I again call on my Republican colleagues to stop pursuing TrumpCare and instead work with us to improve the Affordable Care Act.”
Marta’s daughter, Caroline, was born with Rett syndrome, a neurological disorder. Through Medicaid, Caroline receives skilled nursing services so that she can be cared for at home with her family. TrumpCare would slash Medicaid, and threaten access to quality care for Caroline and millions of other children across America.
Clay’s son Neal has autism and was recently diagnosed with adult onset scoliosis. Medicaid has provided him with assistance so that he can live with his parents and not in a nursing home. TrumpCare would decimate Medicaid and prevent individuals like Neal from living healthy, independent lives.
