Hoyer Statement on Republicans' Latest Attempt to Salvage the Failed TrumpCare Bill
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today following reports that Republican leaders are floating new text of their failed TrumpCare bill:
“Once again, House Republicans are floating text of a new TrumpCare bill that is no better than any of the previous versions before. This latest change would still allow discrimination against Americans with pre-existing conditions, making it substantially the same bill that House Republican leaders could not secure the votes to pass last month. These stop-and-go legislative efforts by Republicans to repeal and undermine the Affordable Care Act are destabilizing our health care markets, leading insurers to exit the marketplaces and consider raising premiums.
“Bringing their catastrophic bill back, repackaged but unchanged, will not make it any more likely to pass; nor will it make it any less dangerous to the health of the American people. I urge the Speaker and Majority Leader to keep their TrumpCare bill off the House Floor.”
