Hoyer Statement on Speaker Ryan's Statements that Republicans Should Not Work with Democrats on Health Care
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Speaker Paul Ryan said that Republicans should not work with Democrats to improve health care for the American people:
"Americans are sick and tired of partisanship that too often puts party ahead of commonsense governing. But that’s exactly the approach Speaker Ryan advocated for this morning, when he said that the President should not work with Democrats to improve health care for the American people. It is even more concerning that he has since chosen to double down on his remarks. Democrats are ready to work in good faith to achieve the kind of bipartisan improvements to the Affordable Care Act that can strengthen the law and help more people get covered while bringing costs down. Playing partisan games with Americans' access to affordable health care, as Speaker Ryan wants to do, will not achieve either goal."
