Hoyer Statement on Majority Leader McCarthy's Comments on the Affordable Care Act
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters that he does not see a need to pass a replacement to the Affordable Care Act before attempting to repeal it:
“I am deeply concerned by Majority Leader McCarthy’s remarks today that Republicans intend to repeal the Affordable Care Act and take health coverage away from 20 million Americans without having a plan to replace the law. For over six years, Republicans have vowed to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, and after more than sixty votes to repeal the law, they have failed to put forward any workable alternative. Yet, Leader McCarthy made clear he intends to move ahead with repeal, leaving millions of Americans without patient protections and access to coverage. Democrats will strongly oppose these efforts, and we will continue working to ensure that affordable health coverage is accessible to all Americans.”
