Hoyer Statement on Rep. Sandy Levin's Decision to Not Seek Re-Election as Ranking Member on the House Ways and Means Committee
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement tonight after Rep. Sandy Levin announced his decision to not seek re-election as Ranking Member on the House Ways and Means Committee:
"I want to thank my friend Rep. Sandy Levin for his service as Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Committee and, previously, as its Chair. He has been a stalwart in defense of the progress we made with the Affordable Care Act, expanding unemployment insurance in the depths of the Great Recession, and protecting Social Security and Medicare as Republicans sought to undermine these critical programs. He led the fight against Republican efforts to provide hundreds of billions in tax cuts to the wealthiest while leaving behind working Americans and low-income families. I am certain that, even after stepping down as Ranking Member, Rep. Levin will continue to champion the causes of economic opportunity, fiscal sustainability, and promoting manufacturing growth that are so important to his constituents in Michigan and to all Americans."
