Hoyer Statement on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Report on Prescription Drug Savings WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released a report on Medicare prescription drug savings under the Affordable Care Act: “Today’s report by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is further evidence that the Affordable Care Act continues to provide access to quality, affordable health care to Americans, including millions of seniors who are saving money on their prescription drugs. Since the law’s enactment in 2010, 7.3 million seniors have saved $8.9 billion as a result of the closing of the prescription drug ‘donut hole.’ Furthermore, 3.4 million seniors who reached the Medicare prescription drug coverage gap have saved an average of $866 per beneficiary since this January. These savings have increased compared to last year, with beneficiaries saving an average of $189 more in 2013 than in 2012. Instead of focusing obsessively on dismantling the important patient protections and cost-saving reforms of the Affordable Care Act, Republicans ought to work with Democrats to implement the law so that millions of Americans can continue to experience its benefits.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
