Guess how many women are running for Stephen Harper in next week's by-elections? Zero. The Conservatives don’t have a single woman candidate. The Liberals have only one. New Democrats? We have three. I sat down with Natalie Courcelles Beaudry, our candidate for Provencher, at the beginning of her campaign. We’re both young women from Manitoba in politics to represent our communities. Our conversation reminded me of the first time I ran back in 2006. The NDP was running more women than any other party. I was proud to be one of them. Can you chip in $10 or more to help elect three phenomenal New Democrat women? That’s just $2.50 after tax credits. Women make up more than half the population, but less than one quarter of the MPs in Parliament. In 2011, 40 of the 76 women elected to Parliament were New Democrats. Tom Mulcair has made this a top priority for next week’s by-elections and for 2015, too. That’s why he was in Manitoba last week campaigning with Natalie. He’s also been busy canvassing with Linda McQuaig in Toronto Centre and Stéphane Moraille in Bourassa. It will take a lot more than a few by-elections to break down the barriers women face – but there is no better place to start. Let’s elect three New Democrat women right now. Donate $10 or more today. That’s just $2.50 after tax credits: www.ndp.ca/send-3-more-women-to-parliamentThanks – and keep up the great work, Niki Niki Ashton MP, Churchill Canada’s New Democrats
