On-line Training and Public Service (PSA) Announcement Notification
The Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) Program Management Office (PMO) currently provides two online training courses through the Emergency Management Institute (EMI). These Independent Study (IS) courses are “IS-247a Integrated Public Alert and Warning System” and “IS-248 Integrated Public Alert and Warning System for the American Public.”
IS-247a Integrated Public Alert and Warning System:
A Federal, State, territorial, tribal, or local alerting authority applying for authorization to use IPAWS as a Collaborative Operating Group must take IS-247a as one of four steps in the application process. The goal of the course is to provide authorized public safety officials with:
• Increased awareness of the benefits of using IPAWS for effective public warnings
• Skills to draft appropriate, effective, and accessible warning messages
• Best practices in the effective use of Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) to reach all people in their communities

IS-248 Integrated Public Alert and Warning System for the American People:
This 15-minute course is designed for the American public and provides an overview of the many communication devices public safety officials in your area can use to alert you, your family, and your community before, during, and after a disaster. The goal of the course is to provide the American people with an ability to:

Identify the key features and benefits of IPAWS
•
Describe the actions to take before, during, and after an emergency to protect yourself and your loved ones

IPAWS Public Service Announcement:
IPAWS currently has a 30-second Public Service Announcement with 15-second English and Spanish versions, entitled “Wireless Emergency Alerts Can Save Lives”. The PSA can be viewed on FEMA’s Ready.gov website at: www.ready.gov/alerts. If your organization is interested in downloading the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) PSA, www.psacentral.org provides users who register the ability to download full quality versions of the video. To download the PSA:

Please note: Registering with a Washington DC address will cause an error in registration; please choose Maryland or Virginia as your State.
