Iran agrees to wider monitoring by U.N.: reports NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Iran agreed Monday to allow expanded United Nations monitoring of its nuclear sites, including a new reactor--a deal that could enhance talks on Tehran's atomic program, news reports said Monday, citing Iran's state television. The broadcaster said a "road map" agreed with the U.N.'s chief nuclear inspector would give officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency access to a key uranium mine and the site of a planned reactor that is seen as capable of producer a greater amount of plutonium byproduct than conventional reactors, the Associated Press said. The development comes after negotiators for the U.S. and other Western powers were unable to reach an agreement with Iran on a program aimed at curbing the country's nuclear program. Oil futures were mixed Monday morning, with Nymex WTI crude down 44 cents, or 0.5%, at $94.16 a barrel, while December Brent futures gained 45 cents, or 0.4%, to $105.57 a barrel.
