Hoyer Statement on Cloture Vote in Senate on Employment Non-Discrimination Act WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Senate's cloture vote on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act: “I am encouraged that the Senate has now voted to bring the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to the Floor for consideration, a bill that would provide important protections for American workers facing discrimination. There is no reason why any employer should be permitted to discriminate against workers because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. LGBT Americans contribute to our economy and help make our country competitive in the global marketplace. They deserve every chance to pursue the American Dream of a good job with pay and benefits that bring with them the opportunity to achieve a secure place in our middle class. Tonight’s vote is a strong indicator that this important legislation has the bipartisan support it needs to pass the Senate and, eventually, the House – and I hope Senators will work quickly to approve it. ” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
