Hoyer Statement on Manufacturing Report WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Institute for Supply Management released its report for October: “Today’s report from the Institute for Supply Management shows that our manufacturing sector grew at its fastest pace in 2013 and outperformed September’s pace, which was the best in two and a half years. The ingredients for a revitalization of American manufacturing are present, if only Congress would stop undermining economic progress and act to foster it instead. “A growing manufacturing base means creating high-skill, high-wage jobs for America’s workers. That’s why House Democrats are continuing to promote our Make It In America plan, which invests in making our manufacturing sector even more competitive. Our Make It In America plan focuses on four key areas: pursuing a national manufacturing strategy, promoting U.S. exports, encouraging the return of innovation and jobs, and training a twenty-first century workforce. This week a manufacturing strategy complementary to the Make It In America agenda was introduced in the Senate under the leadership of Senator Chris Coons. Both chambers of Congress now have jobs bills ready to be taken up, including many that are bipartisan and reflect a broad consensus as to what Congress can do to help our manufacturing businesses grow and create jobs. We should take action on these bills without delay.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
