U.S. stock indexes hit records before Fed
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks jumped on Wednesday after reports cast a better-than-expected light on the jobs front and economic expansion ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision later in the day. Rising to an intraday record of 15,634.32, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was lately up 104.05 points, or 0.7%, to 15,624.64. The index is currently trading above its closing record of 15,567.74 set on July 23. The S&P 500 index rose 9.86 points, or 0.6%, to 1,695.82, after trading up to 1,696.39, above its closing high of 1,695.53 set on July 22 and just below the intraday record of 1,698.78 set the following day.
