California's 4th congressional district covers the northeastern corner of California along Route 395, covering El Dorado, Placer, Nevada, Sierra, Plumas, Lassen, and Modoc Counties, part of Butte County including Oroville, and a small portion of Sacramento County including Orangevale. The district is currently represented by freshman Republican representative Tom McClintock, who was elected in 2008. As of 2006, Republicans had 48 percent of voter registrations; Democrats had 30 percent and Libertarians had roughly 5 percent.[1]
