U.S. Commander Gives Update on Afghanistan Operations from C-SPAN Video Library Programs Recently Aired by info@c-spanarchives.org (National Cable Satellite Corporation) Army Major General Robert B. Abrams, commanding general of the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division, provides an update on current operations. Speaking from Kabul, Maj. Gen. is also the International Security Assistance Force Regional Commander South. U.S. and NATO forces are in the process of passing security control over to the Afghan military. On his first trip to Afghanistan, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who accused the U.S. of holding secret negotiations with the Taliban. Defense Sec. Hagel also met with U.S. soldiers over the weekend and took questions about the impact of the sequestration on their operations in Afghanistan and their military careers. And on Monday, five American soldiers died when a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Kandahar Province and another two were killed by an Afghan police officer.
