Australian shares edge higher, jobs data on tap

SYDNEY (MarketWatch) -- Australian shares edged higher in early trading on Thursday, with the move extending week-to-date gains to 0.8%. The S&P/ASX 200 index rose 0.2% to 4,748.50. Retailers were gaining, with department store operator Myer Holdings Ltd. advancing 1.3%.
