Japanese stocks jump after LDP election win from MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse SYDNEY (MarketWatch) -- Japanese stocks jumped on Monday after Sunday's election saw the Liberal Democratic Party sweep to victory with a resounding win. The Nikkei Stock Average gained 1.5% to 9,883.34. The Japanese yen weakened after the election, and the dollar reached 84.02 yen on Monday, from ¥83.51 in late North American trading on Friday. Weakness in the yen prompted sharp share price gains for many Japanese exporters in the lead up to the election, and Sharp Corp. , up 3.4%, Panasonic Corp. , higher by 1.9%, and TDK Corp. up 2%, were among exporters adding to month-to-date gains on Monday.
