Readout of Secretary Panetta's Meeting with Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta began the second day of his visit to India with a wreath laying ceremony at India Gate, followed by a review of Indian Armed Forces at the Ministry of Defence where the Secretary was greeted by Defence Minister A.K. Antony. In their meeting, Secretary Panetta and Minister Antony held productive discussions on a range of issues, including bilateral military exercises, defense trade and common security challenges. Both sides noted the rapid transformation in the U.S.-India defense relationship over the last decade and a half. Secretary Panetta highlighted the benefits that joint military exercise play in deepening the overall relationship. Both sides agreed that increased defense trade and collaboration will continue to further the relationship. Secretary Panetta and Minister Antony also discussed regional issues, including the transition process in Afghanistan and committed to a shared goal of a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan. Later today Secretary Panetta will deliver public remarks at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis (IDSA) and will attend an official dinner hosted by Minister Antony.
