Rhode Island Small and Emerging Contractors Development Program
This program features two interrelated components:
Educational Component: A series of introductory workshops designed to provide small contractors with information that will improve their company's operation and make it easier for them to increase their bonding capacity.
Bond Readiness Component: One-on-one interactions with surety bond producers, underwriters, and other professionals who work with contractors on a case-by-case basis to assemble the materials needed for a complete bond application and to address issyes that might deter the underwriting of a surety bond.
The program is cosponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration, Surety & Fidelity Association of America, Rhode Island Small Business Development Center, Rhode Island SCORE, and the Center for Women & Enterprise..
Program begins Tuesday, June 5, 2012. Workshops are held each Tuesday evening through July 17, 2012 (no class on July 3) from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Workshops conducted at Johnson & Wales University, Larry Friedman International Center for Entreprneeurship, 8 Abbott Park Place, Providence, RI 02903.
FIRMS MUST BE IN BUSINESS AT LEAST THREE YEARS.

THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED FREE OF CHARGE TO QUALIFYING FIRMS.

June 5: Kick-Off: Program Description and Initial Intake: Includes a program overview of and its implementation; a presentation of current procurement opportunities; and the scheduling of an initial intake interview with a local surety professional.

Banking and Finance
June 19: Construction Accounting and Financial Management
June 26: Bonding and Insurance for Emerging Contractors;
Legal Issues, Claims and Dispute Resolution
July 10: Estimating and Bidding; Project Management and Field Operations
July 17: Managing Growth and Conclusion of Education Component
