Bill to Ban Mountaintop Removal Still at Issue in Tennessee State lawmakers sent a bill that would ban mining at high elevations in Tennessee to summer study, likely killing the measure for the year. Lawmakers said they have heard intense arguments from the coal mining industry and environmentalists since a ban on mining above 2,000 feet was first proposed in 2008.
