Japanese stocks follow U.S., Europe higher from MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Japanese stocks opened solidly higher Friday, as overnight gains in U.S. and European financials sent their Japanese peers higher, and upbeat U.S. data helped shippers and some globally exposed shares. The Nikkei Stock Average rose 0.7% to 9,771.64, with the Topix up 0.8%. Financial moves included a 1.5% rise for Daiwa Securities Group Inc. , a 1.2% gain for Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. , and a 1.4% advance for Nomura Holdings Inc. . Shipping firms rallied, with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. up 2.2%, and Nippon Yusen K.K. ahead by 3.4%. Among exporters, Fujitsu Ltd. gained 1.6%, and Nissan Motor Co. improved by 1.1%. Higher crude-oil prices sent Inpex Corp. up 1.6% and Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. higher by 2.2%.
