TechCamp Montevideo will be the fifth in a series of events supporting Secretary Clinton’s Civil Society 2.0 initiative to build the digital literacy of civil society organizations around the world. TechCamp is a key program of this initiative: A two-day training event through which the State Department pairs leaders in the technology community with civil society organizations to provide training, resources, and assistance that enable civil society organizations to harness the latest connection technologies to build their capacity and advance their missions.
September 30 – October 1, TechCamp Montevideo will bring together more than 50 civil society groups from more than a dozen countries across the Western Hemisphere, who are working specifically on education. All of the participants will gather in Uruguay, where One Lap Top Per Child has become a successful program for education among children. We will pair civil society leaders and representatives with top technology experts with skills ranging from mobile app development, open data, online language learning, and more. TechCamp Montevideo will provide an opportunity for organizations to interact with expert technologists through a series of training sessions; to participate in small group discussions that focus on technology advances in education; and to get hands on training to learn how to use the latest tech-based tools to advance education efforts.
TechCamp Montevideo will be aimed at providing training to organizations working on education issues such as teacher training, digital literacy among students, and the provision of education to marginalized communities. TechCamp Montevideo immediately follows the Digital Opportunities Conference on September 29, a Pathways to Prosperity event hosted by the Government of Uruguay that aims to promote more effective access to, and usage of, information and communication technologies (ICT) so as to expand educational opportunities. As a result of TechCamp Montevideo, these civil society groups will be poised to use connection technologies to better engage their audiences, communicate more efficiently, and be able to keep pace with the changing world.
TechCamp Montevideo is hosted in partnership with the Government of Uruguay.
