Stocks edge higher in early trade ahead of midterm election results
Stocks drifted slightly higher after a flat opening Tuesday as investors prepared for the outcome of a midterm election that's expected to see Democrats take control of the House and Republicans retain control of the Senate. The S&P 500 was up less than 0.1% at 2,740, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 42 points, or 0.2%. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.2% to 7,343.
