Hoyer Meets with Immigration Advocates on the DREAM Act
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) met today with immigration advocates and leadership of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and Congressional Asian-Pacific Caucus (CAPAC) today to discuss how they can continue to work together to bring the bipartisan, bicameral DREAM Act to the Floor.
“I am committed to pursuing every possible avenue to quickly pass the DREAM Act and provide a permanent legislative solution to protect DREAMers,” said Whip Hoyer. “From urging Republican leaders to bring the bill to the Floor and allow the House to work its will to pursuing a discharge petition to force a vote on the legislation, we are looking at every option to get this done. I thank all of the outstanding leaders who met with me today to discuss how we can continue to work together to bring the DREAM Act to the Floor and provide DREAMers with the certainty they’ll be able to stay in this country they love and call home.”
Last week, Whip Hoyer joined with CHC Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham to begin the process of launching a discharge petition, which will be available for Members to sign as early as September 25 – earlier than the regular process would have allowed. Click here to learn more.
