Hoyer Statement on the Fifth Anniversary of DACA and Day of Action on Immigration
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today marking the fifth anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and Day of Action on Immigration:
“On this fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, I’m proud to stand with DREAMers and demand that the President allow the DACA program to continue. It would be inhumane and irresponsible to deport those who were brought here as minors and, in many cases, have known no other home than the United States. Moreover, ending DACA would lead to a loss of $460 billion in GDP over the next ten years and deny our economy the benefit of many talented, hardworking, and innovative workers and entrepreneurs.
“Yesterday, I met in Maryland’s Fifth District with DREAMers to hear about the challenges they face and the hopes they have for a future spent helping to build our country. Other such meetings are taking place across the country this month, and those who support measures like the DREAM Act and DACA will not rest until these individuals no longer have to fear being split apart from their loved ones and communities by deportation. I urge the President to do the right thing and allow DREAMers to continue living and working here and contributing to this nation in whose future we share.”
