Hoyer: There Is No Reason Why the House Should Not Send the Senate A Russia Sanctions Bill
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today urging that the House take up the Senate Russia sanctions bill and send it back to the Senate without delay:
“There is no reason why the House cannot or should not take action without delay to send the Senate a Russia sanctions bill. If the Senate-passed legislation is not sufficient because it did not originate in the House, then we ought to do what Ranking Member Engel has proposed and take up that same bill in the House. Russia must be held accountable for its interference in our election and its efforts to undermine our democracy. Furthermore, Congress ought to reaffirm America’s commitment to NATO’s collective defense obligation, which the Senate-passed version does. I hope House Republicans and Democrats can work together, in coordination with Senate counterparts, to send a Russia sanctions bill to the President’s desk soon.”
