Hoyer Statement on Republicans Starting the Appropriations Process Without A Budget
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today before House Republicans hold their first mark-up of an appropriations bill tonight without a budget in place:
"It is already June, and Republicans in Congress have yet to even propose a budget resolution for the fiscal year starting in October. However, today they are beginning the appropriations process regardless. Without top-line numbers to shed light on our priorities for the next year, appropriators are effectively working in the dark, and any bill they produce under these conditions will only further erode the certainty that the private sector needs to see from our government.
“I urge House Republicans to work with Democrats to address our pressing fiscal needs: that means passing a budget agreement that responsibly lifts the sequester caps so that appropriations can proceed under regular order and ensuring that America pays its bills on time by passing a clean extension of the debt limit."
