Republicans Face Backlash Over TrumpCare, Democrats Continue to Call for an
Independent Commission on Russia
A MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP
This week, Congress returned from a District Work Period during which Members heard their constituents' opinions on TrumpCare. The message from Americans was clear: abandon this bill that will make all Americans pay more for less care and work with Democrats to improve the Affordable Care Act. Unfortunately, Republicans continue to pursue TrumpCare in the Senate, and the chaos and incompetence of the White House continues to cause instability in the health care markets. I continue to urge them to abandon these efforts and work with Democrats to ensure quality, affordable coverage for every American.
Throughout the week, there were a number of deeply troubling reports regarding Trump and Russia. While the appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee the Russia investigation was a positive step forward, I continue to call for an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the matter so that we can prevent foreign interference in future elections. The American people deserve answers, and House Democrats will continue to demand we get to the bottom of what happened.
Next week, President Trump will announce his proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2018. I joined my colleagues this week to call on Congress to raise the spending caps and invest in domestic priorities. We cannot be a secure nation unless all Americans are healthy, educated, and have access to opportunities. The latest reports previewing the President’s proposed budget have been troubling, and I will strongly oppose disinvesting in our future.
Sincerely yours,
Steny H. Hoyer
