Hoyer Statement on Republicans’ Latest Attempt to Revive Their Failed TrumpCare Bill
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today following reports that House Republicans are working with the White House to bring their TrumpCare bill to the Floor next week:
“After having to withdraw their disastrous TrumpCare bill last month amid unprecedented public disapproval, President Trump and House Republican leaders should not make the same mistake again next week. The bill they are reportedly planning to bring to the Floor is no better - and possibly even worse - than the one overwhelmingly rejected by the American people at town halls across the country in the past few weeks. Instead of repeatedly trying to make Americans pay more for less, throwing millions off their coverage, allowing discrimination based on pre-existing conditions once more, and sowing uncertainty and chaos in the marketplace, Republicans ought to be focusing this week on working with Democrats to prevent an unnecessary and costly government shutdown before the funding deadline on April 28. Republicans should not waste their time on further health care outrages when the clock is ticking to fund the government.”
