Hoyer: Americans Deserve to Know the Full Extent of Russia's Meddling in our Domestic Affairs
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the Senate Intelligence Committee's hearing on Russia and new reports about the intelligence divulged by the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Devin Nunes:
"Today, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Burr said that if his committee were to politicize its investigation of Russian interference, the investigation would fail. That is exactly what we have seen happen with the House Intelligence Committee as a result of the actions of its chairman, which have cast a cloud of doubt and partisanship over its proceedings. The news that White House aides furnished the reports that Chairman Nunes cited in defense of the President's wiretapping claims further disqualifies him as being able to lead a serious and unbiased investigation.
"I continue to believe that the best way to get answers for the American people is through a bipartisan, independent commission to investigate not only Russian efforts to influence our election last year but also ongoing attempts to subvert our democracy. Our people deserve to know the full extent of Russia's meddling in our domestic affairs."
