Hoyer Statement on the Potential Appointment of General Michael Flynn to National Security Advisor
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today:
"With each appointment made by the President-Elect, my grave concern about his presidency increases. First, he appointed Steve Bannon, an alleged domestic abuser with white supremacist leanings, as his chief strategist. Now, General Michael Flynn, a man who was fired by President Obama and who has made incendiary, hateful comments about Muslims, has been offered the position of National Security Advisor. This should alarm all Americans. In particular, I have serious questions about General Flynn's competence and composure, his ongoing lobbying on behalf of the Turkish government, and his links to Russia. We have learned many lessons since 9/11, one of which is not to provide our enemies with fodder to fuel anti-American hatred. I fear that appointing this individual to such a central position of importance to our national security will do just that."
