Whip Hoyer Also Launches New Job Announcements Board for
House Democratic Staff Openings
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD), the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), the Blue Dog Coalition, the New Democrat Coalition, the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), and the LGBT Equality Caucus announced jointly today the re-launch of the House Democrats’ Official Online Resume Bank. Members of the public can visit democraticwhip.gov/resumes and submit resumes that will be viewable by all new and existing House Democratic offices. An updated "Frequently Asked Questions" section was also released with tips on how to best utilize this resource. In addition, House Democratic Whip Hoyer today launched a new job announcements board at DemocraticWhip.gov/Jobs.
“The Resume Bank has been incredibly successful since it was first launched four years ago, and we hope it will continue to improve House Democrats’ hiring process and further strengthen our staff diversity,” said Whip Hoyer. “The Resume Bank advances our commitment to openness, transparency, and equal opportunity, and House Democrats welcome applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds. The Resume Bank creates a way for any member of the public to submit a resume that will be shared with all House Democratic offices, including the incoming freshman class elected in November. We believe it will continue to be an invaluable resource to our Members as they prepare for the transition to the 115th Congress and for applicants looking for a job on Capitol Hill.”
“In addition, our new Job Announcements Board is another example, like our Resume Bank and our Whip Watch app, of House Democrats leading Congress in using open digital tools,” Whip Hoyer continued. “We hope it will also expand access to employment opportunities, and thereby result in more diversity.”
First launched in November 2012, the House Democrats’ Official Resume Bank has been a significant success with nearly 7,000 resumes submitted, over 6,000 unique visits by House Democratic staff to browse resumes, and over 500 personalized recommendations left on resumes from current offices and staff. The Resume Bank has been a driver of diversity, as evident by over 2,600 queries performed on demographics data field when current House staff browse resumes. The Resume Bank was updated based on feedback from users in both December 2012 and November 2014.
An updated Frequently Asked Questions document was also released today to help the public and Congressional offices learn more about the Resume Bank and how best to utilize it.
The new job announcements board at DemocraticWhip.gov/Jobs will post in real-time all job openings from House Democratic offices. These job postings are currently only available online behind pay-walls on third party websites (with the notable exception of Democratic Whip Hoyer's Whip Watch iOS app, which is available for free).
Members of the public can go online to democraticwhip.gov/resumes where they can fill out a form and upload a copy of their resume. That information will then be posted in a searchable, sortable Resume Bank on DemCom, the official intranet for House Democratic staff. Democratic offices will be able to look through candidates to fill open positions, and DemCom users will be able to recommend, endorse, or comment on submissions in the Resume Bank, either in their personal capacity or on behalf of their office. DemCom users also have the ability to create personalized lists of resumes, and easily email or print those resume lists en masse.
Democratic Whip Hoyer's office manages DemCom, which has been in use for eight years and is used regularly by over 2,000 House Democratic staffers. In addition to an extensive calendar and staff directory, DemCom hosts all internal documents within the Democratic Caucus including "Dear Colleague" Member letters, Leadership fact sheets and talking points, organization position papers and public sentiment from POPVOX.com, all organized by specific legislation.
