Hoyer Statement on the Fourth Anniversary of Implementation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the fourth anniversary of the implementation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:
“Four years ago, President Obama took action within his authority to prevent the deportation of those who were brought to our country as children and know America as their home. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program has made it possible for hundreds of thousands of young people to stop living in fear of being taken from their homes in the night and enabled them instead to focus on helping build a stronger future for the America they love. Instead of vilifying immigrants, taking the Obama Administration to court to force it to deport those we call ‘Dreamers,’ and bringing to the Floor a host of discriminatory anti-immigrant measures – as Republicans are doing – Congress ought to pass bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform legislation that keeps families together, creates an earned pathway to citizenship, fixes our broken immigration system, and ensures we can attract talented innovators and job-creators from overseas. House Democrats will continue to press for these reforms and defend the President’s executive actions that reflect the values that have always made America great.”
