Hoyer Announces New Make It In America Legislation
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) announced new Make It In America bills. Earlier this month, Whip Hoyer announced a new Make It In America plan, which focuses on four areas of action: expanding entrepreneurship and innovation, closing the skills gap, building a 21st century infrastructure, and breaking down barriers to manufacturing. The 82 bills and ideas announced today are examples of how Congress can address these action areas. To view the list of bills, click here. “I’m proud to announce new Make It In America bills today,” said Whip Hoyer. “These bills address many of the ideas explored during a series of hearings I hosted last year to explore how Congress can help encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs to start and keep companies here in the U.S. At a time when many Americans feel left behind from our recovery, House Democrats have a plan to help ensure that more of our businesses and workers can make it in America. I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance the Make It In America plan, and I thank them for putting forward these proposals.”
Whip Hoyer launched the Make It In America plan in 2010 to encourage private sector job creation here in the U.S. After five years and seventeen Make It In America bills signed into law, Whip Hoyer hosted a series of hearings entitled “Make It In America: What’s Next?” to explore how the economy has, and hasn’t, changed since the plan was first launched, and what families and businesses need to succeed in today’s economy. During the hearings, 77 House Democrats heard testimony from innovators, entrepreneurs, economists, Members of Congress, and others about how the Make It In America plan should be updated to address today’s challenges and take advantage of new opportunities. Whip Hoyer identified the four action areas of the new Make It In America plan based on the feedback from the hearings earlier this month.
