Hoyer Joins in Filing Bipartisan Amicus Brief in Support of the Clean Power Plan WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) joined in filing a bipartisan amicus brief in support of President Obama’s Clean Power Plan, which is being challenged in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The amicus brief was signed by 44 current and former Senators and 164 current and former House Members. “I’m proud to join 163 current and former House colleagues, along with 44 current and former Senators, in filing a bipartisan amicus brief today before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in support of the Obama Administration’s Clean Power Plan,” said Whip Hoyer. “Congress gave the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the authority to safeguard the public and our long-term environmental health, and it has acted within its legal authority under the Clean Air Act in promulgating the Clean Power Plan to reduce carbon pollution.” “We must as a nation make a concerted effort to combat climate change and its dangerous effects, including the powerful storms, droughts, and wildfires we have seen in recent years,” continued Whip Hoyer. “Our children and grandchildren deserve to inherit an America where the air is clean and safe to breathe. I will continue to stand up for commonsense environmental protections and safeguards to public health, and I am confident that our courts will uphold the legality of the EPA’s actions that further these goals.” The full text of the amicus brief filed today can be found here. www.dpcc.senate.gov/files/documents/CPPAmicusBriefFINAL.pdf
