Statement on House Resolution Condemning the Recent Terrorist Attacks in Brussels
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House voted unanimously for a resolution condemning yesterday’s terrorist attacks in Brussels:
“Today, the House voted unanimously for a resolution condemning the terrorist attacks in Brussels yesterday and affirming America’s solidarity with the people of Belgium. These heinous attacks will only steel our resolve to confront the threat ISIS presents – and not, as the terrorists would prefer, cause us to shrink from that challenge and disengage from our global security leadership role.
“Together with our European partners and our allies in the Middle East, the Administration must take the steps necessary to eliminate ISIS in the short-term.
“As long as ISIS continues to rule wide swaths of Syria, occupy cities in Iraq, and conduct operations in other countries, these facts will keep serving as a potent recruiting tool to those individuals susceptible to radicalization.
“The gains made in recent weeks against ISIS positions in Iraq have been important, but we must act decisively to eliminate ISIS as an identifiable entity in Syria, Iraq, and any other territory it occupies.”
