Black Friday online spending totaled $822 million between midnight and 11 a.m.
Consumers spent $822 million online between midnight and 11 a.m. ET, according to the latest numbers from the Adobe Digital Index, a 15% increase from last year. Expected growth was 19%. Smartphones and tablets accounted for 37% of sales, or $380 million, a new record. Adobe expects Black Friday online sales to total $2.6 billion, slightly lower than last year due to higher shopping levels on Thanksgiving day and more out-of-stock merchandise on most wanted items. Thanksgiving day online sales totaled $1.73 billion. More than $1 billion had been spent between midnight and 5 p.m. ET. See also: Thanksgiving shopping at stores was 'a bust'
