Hoyer: Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill Does Not Fund the Needs of Our Veterans WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after voting against House Republicans' Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriations bill: “I joined with many other Members to oppose this year’s Military Construction and Veterans Affairs appropriations bill out of a deep concern that it does not adequately fund the needs of our nation’s veterans, while using a budget gimmick to get around the sequester cuts imposed by the Republican budget strategy. America’s veterans and military personnel deserve better than this bill. “The President has indicated that he would veto this bill in its current form should major concerns not be addressed responsibly – and today’s vote demonstrates House Democrats can sustain such a veto should that occur. I hope that, instead, Republicans will work with us to replace sequestration with an alternative that enables Congress to invest for the long-term both in supporting our veterans and in other important domestic priorities.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov for more press, floor and member resources.
