Hoyer Statement on Joining the Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities Caucus
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD), who represents Bowie State University in Maryland’s Fifth District, released the following statement today on joining the new Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caucus:
“I am very proud to be joining the new Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caucus. HBCUs have long played a crucial role in providing high quality education that strengthens both the African American community and our country as a whole. Many of them, such as Bowie State University in Maryland’s Fifth District, are cutting-edge institutions of research and higher education that provide a solid foundation for student achievement and a launch-pad for successful careers.
“At last night’s kickoff event for the Bipartisan HBCU Caucus, I was so pleased to see Members from both sides of the aisle coming together to affirm Congress’s strong support for African American education, opportunity, and economic advancement and to celebrate the extraordinary contributions that HBCUs make to our country and to the world. I join in thanking Rep. Alma Adams for her leadership and initiative in launching this new caucus, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue efforts to strengthen and support HBCUs in Maryland and throughout our country.”
