Hoyer: Disappointed Senate Republicans Voted to Block Consideration of Bill to Give American Workers a Raise WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after Senate Republicans voted to block consideration of legislation to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour: “I am very disappointed that Senate Republicans voted today to block consideration of a bill to give American workers the raise they deserve. Increasing the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour remains a priority for Democrats, because full time workers should not have to live in poverty. While raising the federal minimum wage will provide a significant boost to the lowest-paid workers in our country, it will also have a wider effect on wages that will contribute to higher consumer spending, helping our economy grow. There is no reason to delay consideration of this important legislation. I hope Republicans will drop their opposition to paying American workers a better wage and instead work with Democrats to pass the Fair Minimum Wage Act and send it to President without delay.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
