Hoyer Statement on March Manufacturing Report
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Institute for Supply Management released its report for March:
“Today’s report by the Institute for Supply Management shows that our manufacturing sector is experiencing steady growth. This ought to remind Congress that there is an opportunity to build on this growth by making important investments in education, training, and infrastructure that help our manufacturers hire skilled workers and move their goods to market more efficiently. Sadly, the budget released by Republicans this morning would reverse those gains instead of build on them. Without investments in growth and competitiveness, a serious effort to achieve fiscal sustainability, and renewed certainty provided by a balanced approach to deficit reduction, our economy will not see business expansion or job creation on the scale we need.
“Instead of pursuing a partisan budget that cuts investments in our nation, Republicans should join with Democrats and take action to help our manufacturing sector succeed and expand. House Democrats continue to work to advance our Make It In America plan, which contains bipartisan solutions that will help our manufacturers compete, expand, and hire more workers for high-skill, high-wage jobs. I urge House Republicans to pass Make It In America legislation without delay so we can strengthen our manufacturing sector and help more of our businesses and workers Make It In America.”
