Hoyer Statement on Agreement Between Ukraine and IMF WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced an arrangement to make $27 billion in international funds available to Ukraine over the next two years, including $14 to $18 billion from the IMF: “Today's preliminary agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund represents an important step forward as leaders in Kiev seek to stabilize the country's economy and implement reforms that will promote growth and opportunity for the Ukrainian people. This agreement highlights the important role the IMF can play in preventing economic catastrophe, and while I was disappointed that the bill the House passed today does not include ratification of IMF quota reform, I hope that we will work to address this issue soon. "The United States will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Ukraine as they seek to choose their own path forward through democracy. The illegal Russian intrusion into Crimea will never be accepted by the international community, and Congress will continue to demonstrate our support for Ukraine as it faces Russian aggression."
