Hoyer Statement on 6 Million Americans Enrolled Through Affordable Care Act WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the announcement that 6 million Americans have enrolled in private health insurance plans through the federal and state-based marketplaces created through the Affordable Care Act: “More than six million Americans have now enrolled in private health insurance plans through the federal and state-based marketplaces, and there are still several days left for those who need affordable coverage to sign up. The Affordable Care Act is working for millions of Americans, including all those who are now protected against discrimination based on pre-existing conditions, lifetime or annual caps on coverage, and being dropped by their insurers when they get sick. Young people under age 26 can gain coverage through their parents’ plans, and millions of seniors on Medicare can receive a range of free preventive services. “Democrats are committed to making sure the Affordable Care Act works for all Americans, and we will continue to defend it against attempts by House Republicans to repeal or undermine its cost savings and patient protections. I urge all those who are still seeking affordable coverage to visit www.healthcare.gov before Monday to see the options available through the marketplaces.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
