Hoyer Statement on Women's History Month WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Women's History Month, which is celebrated during the month of March: “Tomorrow marks the beginning of Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the women of character, courage, and commitment who have helped build our country and ensure that it lives up to the ideals of its founding. While this is a time to celebrate, it is also a time to reflect on the work left to do. Women continue to face discrimination and inequality in our economy and society – something we must not accept and ought to continue making a focus of Congress’s work. “House Democrats will continue to stand up for equality, opportunity, and the freedom to pursue the American Dream. This means protecting women’s right to make their own health care decisions, empowering them as entrepreneurs and innovators, strengthening protections against domestic violence, and ensuring that every woman who seeks a job can find one that pays an equal wage and opens doors to opportunity. It also means fighting for an increase in the minimum wage, which will benefit the women who make up the majority of minimum wage workers. As we mark Women’s History Month 2014, let us redouble our efforts to ensure that every woman and man in this country has an equal shot at making it in America.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
