House GOP Continues Focus on Political Messaging At Expense of Action on Critical Issues MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP Instead of taking action this week on critical issues, House Republicans continued to waste time on political message bills. Unfortunately, it appears that the schedule for the next few weeks won't address critical items either. I'm extremely disappointed that House Republican leaders won't allow the House to renew emergency unemployment insurance for almost 2 million Americans, raise the minimum wage, or pass comprehensive immigration reform - all issues that enjoy broad support from the American people. Despite Republican inaction, more than 180 Democrats signed a "discharge petition," which would force a vote in the House on H.R. 1010, the Fair Minimum Wage Act, which would raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour. A strong majority of Americans support raising the minimum wage, and more than 600 economists have endorsed raising the minimum wage because it would grow our economy while lifting families out of poverty. House Democrats remain committed to taking action to strengthen the middle class and grow the economy, and I hope Republicans will join with Democrats and bring this bill to the Floor for a vote so that we can grow our economy and support American workers. I hope that when we return next week, House Republicans will abandon their irresponsible do-nothing style of governing, and work with House Democrats to take action on the most critical issues facing our nation. Sincerely yours,
STENY H. HOYER
