Hoyer Statement on President Obama's Proposed Federal Pay Raise for Fiscal Year 2015 WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the 1% pay increase for civilian federal employees and uniformed military personnel President Obama will propose in his fiscal year 2015 budget: “I am pleased that the President is honoring the principle of pay parity in his FY2015 budget proposal by including a 1% pay increase for those who serve our nation in the military and our civilian federal workforce. While I strongly believe the formula provided in the 1990 Federal Pay Comparability Act should be the basis for annual salary and wage adjustments, the President’s recommendation recognizes that three straight years of pay freezes in 2010, 2011, and 2012 must be corrected. Civilian employees have already contributed $120 billion toward deficit reduction in the form of these pay freezes and increased pension contributions. The time has come for Congress to take seriously the widening gap between federal and private sector salaries to which the recent pay freezes have contributed. “Our troops continue to go above and beyond the call of duty to keep our nation safe, and civilian employees continue to work hard to support the defense and well-being of our nation. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that our federal employees and military service members receive this much-deserved pay increase.” Visit www.democraticwhip.gov/ for more press, floor and member resources.
