Labor Secretary sees Congress hiking minimum wage
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch)-- Labor Secretary Thomas Perez said Wednesday he is optimistic that Congress will eventually raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 from $7.25 for all workers. "This issue has enjoyed bipartisan support, and I'm confident it will continue to," Perez told reporters at the White House. President Barack Obama is set to sign an executive order that will raise the minimum wage for workers under new federal contracts. Perez said that "hundreds of thousands" of workers will be helped by the executive order, when it goes into effect on Jan. 1 of next year.
