Hoyer Statement on Manufacturing Report
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Institute for Supply Management released its report for November:
“This morning’s Institute for Supply Management report shows the strongest gains for manufacturing in two and a half years, building on last month’s solid gains and proving that our manufacturers have what it takes to make it in America. However, in order to compete in a changing global marketplace, our manufacturing sector needs greater support from Congress and the economic certainty that can only come from clear, long-term budget and tax policies. That’s why Congress must achieve the kind of balanced fiscal approach that private sector leaders have called for.
“House Democrats, joined by colleagues across the aisle, have put forward a strong legislative package to help our manufacturing sector expand and create the jobs and opportunities that can sustain a growing middle class. Our Make It In America plan, along with a complementary plan introduced last month in the Senate, represents a serious effort to create jobs and invest in our country’s long-term manufacturing competitiveness. It does so by focusing on four central goals: pursuing a national manufacturing strategy, promoting U.S. exports, encouraging the return of innovation and jobs to the U.S., and securing a twenty-first century workforce. There is no reason why Make It In America bills should not be considered on the House Floor without delay.
“I hope that the Speaker and Majority Leader will work with the Democratic and Republican cosponsors of Make It In America legislation to bring these bills to the Floor in the coming weeks and pass them. We need to take the necessary steps now to secure a strong American manufacturing base for years to come.”
