Hoyer Statement on Veterans Day
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Veterans Day, which is observed on Monday, November 11:
“On Monday, we will pay tribute to all those who have worn the uniform of our country and put their lives on the line to defend our freedom and way of life. On this Veterans Day, we join in honoring the service and sacrifices of millions who, in wartime and in peacetime, stood in defense of the United States, its allies, and the enduring cause of peace and justice throughout the world.
“As we continue to welcome home the brave men and women who have been serving our nation faithfully in Afghanistan – and those who returned from Iraq – let us rededicate ourselves to the work of helping them transition back to civilian life, ensuring that they have access to the care they need to heal the physical and psychological wounds of war, and creating the jobs that will help them secure their place in a strong and growing middle class. We owe our nation’s veterans – and those who continue to serve in our Armed Forces – not only our gratitude but the fulfillment of our promise to take care of them and their families. That is why I will continue to be a strong advocate in Congress for veterans, military service members, and their families, working to create opportunities for them to access higher education, avoid homelessness, receive quality health care, and find good jobs that pay well. We must never waver from this solemn obligation.”
