Japan lawmakers OK candidates to fill BOJ board from MarketWatch.com - MarketPulse HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Japan's parliament on Thursday approved the nominations of economists Takehiro Sato and Takahide Kiuchi to fill the two vacancies on the policy-setting board of the nation's central bank, according to reports. Kiuchi is chief economist at Nomura Securities, while Sato is chief economist at Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities. The approval came after Ryutaro Kono, chief economist at BNP Paribas, was voted down in April in the Upper House, which is controlled by the opposition Liberal Democratic Party. Kono's nomination was shot down on a perception that he was opposed to excessive monetary easing, according to local media reports. The Japanese yen weakened against the dollar and the euro Thursday, with the dollar changing hands at 79.63 yen, while the euro was trading at 100.95 yen.
